There have been some recent inquiries regarding attendance and tardies. To clarify, absences will be excused for the following reasons:

Medical
Religious
Judicial
Bereavement

Tardies to school will be excused if your child has been at a medical or dental appointment and you bring in a note from the doctor/dentist. Tardies will also be excused for Religious, Judicial and Bereavement.

For more detailed information, please see the California Ed code regarding truancy and excused absences below.

Definition of a Truant
The California Legislature defined a truant in very precise language. In summary, it states that a student missing more than 30 minutes of instruction without an excuse three times during the school year must be classified as a truant and reported to the proper school authority. This classification and referral helps emphasize the importance of school attendance and is intended to help minimize interference with instruction. The California Education Code (EC) Section that defines a truant reads as follows:

EC Section 48260 (a): Any pupil subject to compulsory full-time education or compulsory continuation education who is absent from school without a valid excuse three full days or tardy or absent more than any 30-minute period during the school day without a valid excuse on three occasions in one school year, or any combination thereof, is a truant and shall be reported to the attendance supervisor or the superintendent of the school district.

in Section 45194, except that references therein to "employee” shall be deemed to

There is a link on the myroosevelt.net homepage that says "is your child absent today?" If you click it, you will go to the page about emailing absences. I will add the above information to that linked page. http://www.myroosevelt.net/?page=email_office

I can't seem to find a link to the E mail address for reporting absences. The end of this letter might be a good place to also post this.
