Every year, Roosevelt's families and friends participate in the annual City of Santa Monica's 4th of July Parade. Ask anyone who has attended, especially the kids, it is always a great time. Like it sounds, this event happens just weeks into the new school year. This year it's on September 19. This is a giant school-wide picnic in the big yard with food provided and is a great chance for new and old families to socialize. Tickets are sold prior to the event, and at the event. Help organize the ticket sales, set-up that day and more. Start the year off by helping out!

Every year for one week, our auditorium is transformed into a Book Fair, with a percentage of every book sold going to Roosevelt. It's not as glamorous as school clean up day, nor as simple as preparing the budget -- but, seriously, it is the "big picture" issues that really affect our students in the longest and most far-reaching ways. Silent Auctions, book fairs and 'Boxtops' are important efforts, but the big money for our school district in the past few years has come from legislated sources, much of which is up for renewal this year.

During the Read-a-thon, Roosevelt rewards and promotes reading while also raising money for our school (last year we raised over $50,000!). Children get sponsors to pay for the minutes that they read (or are read to). On T.V. Turn Off Tuesdays, parents and teachers team up to "catch" children reading (or being read to) in their home. Volunteers are needed through-out the three weeks for the kick-off assembly, raffle, paperwork, T.V Turn Off Tuesdays, decorations, etc. Join today!

Have you seen those beautiful stepping stones outside the 9th street gate? This year we are planning to expand the project to ALL classrooms who would like to participate. All profits from the sale of each child's stone will go to Roosevelt. We need at least two volunteers from each classroom to help organize for a projected April installation. Volunteers will need to attend a training session and make a few classroom visits.
